Uhuru Peak, 5895m

Saturday, Day 6,  was our “summit day”, though it began with a wake-up “knock on the tent” at 10pm on Friday. We started walking a bit after 11pm in clear, freezing conditions up a savagely steep trail in very thin air. Sadly Frances felt unwell (she is fine now) and Carol went down with her to help her get back to the camp after they had first reached 5300m. The rest of us reached the highest point of Africa about 8.30am.
